Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) plays a critical role in providing quality industry-relevant polytechnic education. Over the years, we have distinguished ourselves by leading the way with the Teaching Factory concept to train technologists, innovated constantly to meet the needs of a changing economy, worked closely with partners in industry and focused continually on developing new capabilities.

History of NYP
1.Established on 1 April 1992.
2.Enrolled its pioneer batch of students for its School of Health Sciences and School of Business Management in July 1992.
3.Set up the School of Engineering and the School of Information Technology in July 1993.
4.The French-Singapore Institute, German-Singapore Institute and the Japan-Singapore Institute were transferred from the Economic Development Board to the Polytechnic in February 1993.
5.Operated from five temporary campuses - Bukit Merah, Jurong, Outram, Tiong Bahru and Yishun - before moving to its permanent home in Ang Mo Kio in April 1998.
6.Set up the School of Design and School of Chemical & Life Sciences in November 2000.
7.The School of Interactive & Digital Media was established in November 2006.
8.Mr Chan Lee Mun took over as Principal and CEO in August 2007;Mr Lin Cheng Ton went on to head NYP International.  

 Today, NYP has seven schools and more than 1,300 staff offering 50 full-time diplomas to about 16,000 students in a wide range of courses in various disciplines. NYP also offers a large selection of continuing education and training programmes to adult learners, at the advanced diploma, specialist diploma, diploma and certificate levels as well as customised professional development programmes. Our graduates are well sought-after by industry. NYP staff and students have also achieved significant success at prestigious local and international competitions.

These achievements have been made possible as NYP’s leadership and dedicated colleagues have together developed NYP towards a premier polytechnic of global distinction.  The hallmarks of our success include NYP’s Organisational Excellence Framework which aligns and integrates our mission with our organisation capital, strategies and values. 


NYP’s successes have been reflected in its many awards and accolades.  These include the Singapore Quality Award, the Distinguished Public Service Award for Organisational Excellence, People Excellence Award, CIO 100, Hewitt Best Employers Award, and the Singapore Innovation Excellence Award.  Such awards mark major milestones in NYP’s journey of excellence, and are strong affirmation that NYP strives continuously to be among the “best” of educational institutions.
