Council to oversee the industry, chaired by the relevant Federal Minister
•Ensuring public transport concessions for international students are comparable to those offered to domestic students
•Reviewing off-campus accommodation
•Providing appropriate treatment in public hospitals to international students
•Reviewing the GTE requirement
•Rolling out the SVP arrangements to “low immigration risk” providers
•Doubling the bonus points from five to ten  for an Australian education qualification in  respect to meeting the requirements for skilled migration
The new Ministerial Coordinating Council will ensure the recommendations n the report are acted upon and the Tertiary Education. Department is referring to the report as the “new blueprint for sustainable international education”. We can only hope that this indeed the case and the confusion in the market about Australia as a destination for study will dissipate.
On a local level the significant news is thatI have stepped down as College Director. Over the years I have had the privilege of meeting many of you and getting to know about the challenges you face in your particular markets. I have always been impressed with your professionalism and the focus you have on helping students fulfil their objectives.
Like me I know you recognise the value and reward of being involved in education and the partnership we form with young people in this important aspect of their life. I would like to thank you for your continued support for the College and I know you are in good hands our Admissions and Marketing team. Best wishes and good luck for the future.

Streamline Visa  Processing (SVP)
Many thanks to you all for the way that you have embraced the concept of SVP and being so very proactive with the check-list for those students who would have been assessed as Level 3 or 4 under the “old” scheme. Your role in SVP is vital to the success of the programme. We are delighted to say that since the introduction of SVP we have had a very small number of visa applications rejected!
Thank you to all.
Post-study work rights
March 23 2013 saw the introduction of the extended post-graduation work rights. This change to work rights is the result of Recommendation 4 of the Knight Review. Most students graduating from a degree level course will now be able to stay in Australia for up to two years and have the right to work. This might prove to be very attractive for students who wish to work for a couple of years before they embark on their Masters degrees.
Diploma of IT…
will now be taught on a semesterised basis, effective from Semester 1, 2014. This ensures we align better with Curtin University’s calendar, and also means students benefit from extra study breaks.
