In Mainland China, on behalf of the China IELTS Network and working as a partnership with NEEA (the National Education & Examination Authority), the British Council (in China we operate as the Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy/British Consulate General) administrates the IELTS test in 39 IELTS test centres all across the country. There are 48 test dates in a year. Candidates can choose any test date and venue that suits them.

On the day of the test:

1. What shall I bring to the test? What are the prohibited items?

Please bring only the following:

• The same genuine and valid identity document used for online registration (refer to the accepted identity documents above)

• 1 recent passport-sized colour photograph taken within the past 6 months against a white background. Candidates must not wear glasses in the photographs. The photograph must show the head, ears and shoulders of the candidate from front on. Candidate must write their full name and candidate number at the back of the photograph

• Your Admission Ticket

If you do not bring all of the items listed above,you might not be able to take the test and might not be eligible for transfer, cancellation or refund of any kind.
Please do not bring your mobile phone or any other electronic equipment or other personal belongings.
We will provide all the stationery you need for the test.

2. What should I do if I forget to bring the Admission Ticket?

Please contact our test day personnel immediately. They will assist you to get into the test venue after you present your valid Identification Document for registration.

3. When do I have to arrive?

Written test: you are advised to arrive at the test venue by 08:00 am.
Speaking test: you are advised to arrive at the test venue 30 minutes before your scheduled interview time.

4. What if I arrive late?

Written test: candidates not checked in by 08:30 am into the written test room will not be allowed to sit the written and speaking parts of the test and will not be eligible for transfer, cancellation or refund of any kind.

Speaking test: candidates not checked in 15 minutes prior to the scheduled interview time into the speaking test waiting room may not be admitted to the speaking test and will not be eligible for transfer, cancellation, or refund of any kind. Such candidates’ written test results will be voided as well.

5. What should I do if I write the Listening answers on the Reading side of the answer sheet? What should I do if I write the answer to Writing Task 1 on the Task 2 answer sheet?

Please inform the invigilator in your test room immediately.

6. What should I do if I miss the test or can't complete the test due to circumstances outside my control?

You should contact the IELTS invigilator or supervisor immediately at your designated test venue.

7. Can I quit during the written test?

You may not quit the test,. Otherwise you will be prohibited from taking any remaining part(s) of the test, and results of any completed part(s) of the test may be voided.

8. If I miss the Listening/Reading/Writing session, can I take the Speaking Test?

You cannot take the Speaking Test.

9. Can I change the time of my speaking test?

All candidates should follow the speaking test schedule prepared by the British Council (operating in China as the Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy/Consulates-General). We regret that no change can be made to the arrangements for the test days at the request of the candidates.

10. How long will the test day photo take?

It takes 30 seconds per candidate on average to take the test day photo. The process is usually conducted in the speaking test venue, however this may vary due to different venue locations. Candidates are advised to arrive at the test venue 30 minutes prior to the interview schedule and follow test day instruction.

11. Do I still need to submit another photo given that my photo is already taken on the test day?

Yes, candidates are requested to bring one Passport size colour photograph to the speaking test and submit to the invigilator. The photograph must be Passport size, taken within the past 6 months, against a white background, with the candidate’s full name and candidate number written on the back.

12. If I withdraw from the speaking test, and fail to participate in the test day photography, can I still get the TRF?

All test centres in Mainland China rolled-out the test day photography system from 01July, 2011. This is an important identification authentication system to enhance IELTS test security. If you withdraw from the speaking test, and failed to attend test day photography before completing the session, the IELTS administrator will not issue the Test Result Form (TRF) to you.

13. Can I refuse to participate the test day photography system?

IELTS Test day photography is an important global initiative, which requires all candidates’ cooperation and participation. If you have any questions, or this causes inconvenience on the test day, please notify our staff immediately. Refusal to follow our security procedures may result in candidates not being allowed to sit the test, and not be eligible for transfer, cancellation refund of any kind.
