Ei Study updates: Singapore, 17 October 2012 – Republic Polytechnic recorded another milestone on 17 October 2012 as it became the first Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) in Singapore to build a purpose-built hangar on its campus.
Republic Poly's (RP) new hangar has a built-up space of 1,500 square metres with all the
facilities typically found in an actual industry aircraft hangar.

Named The ARCH, short for The Aerospace Hub, RP's new 1,500 square-metre facility is the only one at an IHL that mimics an actual industry aircraft hangar. Besides housing RP's newly-acquired Learjet aircraft, The ARCH also comes with, for example, an air traffic control simulator and non-destructive testing to give students in-depth and hands-on opportunities to study aircraft structures, systems, and engines.
Witnessing the momentous launch of The ARCH were approximately 150 guests, among them representatives from aviation giants such as the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), Diethelm Keller Aviation, Hawker Pacific Asia, and SATS.

The ARCH was officially opened by Guest-of-Honour
Mr Lee Hsien Yang (second from left), Chairman of CAAS.

The ARCH aims to help meet the growing demand for skilled manpower in the aerospace industry, and strengthen Singapore's position as an aviation hub. Speaking at the launch event, CAAS Chairman Mr Lee Hsien Yang, who was Guest-of-Honour, addressed the growing aerospace industry and the need to remain steadfast in providing quality training for our aviation workforce. He also commended RP's commitment in the training and grooming of the next wave of professionals to bring the aerospace industry forward.
"RP has a team of seasoned industry veterans in the academic team who provide critical knowledge transfer on the dynamic demands of the industry to the students. RP also works closely with industry partners to ensure the curriculum is current and forward-looking", Mr Lee added.

To commemorate the opening of The ARCH, RP signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with aviation leaders, Diethelm Keller Aviation, Hawker Pacific, and SATS. With these MOUs, RP students stand to gain from internships and final-year project mentoring.
